Aurona Weideman and her daughter, May, have created a charming haven from a bygone are at Nostalgie in the centre of Oudtshoorn in the Klein Karoo. The menu ranges from classic to electric. Aurona stirs het pots and produces all this, plus wonderful, traditional Oudtshoorn ostrich cuisine and Karoo dishes.

There is an extensive selection of breakfasts, using free range egss, and home baked breads warm from the oven. Fresh cakes and scones can be nibbled on while sipping tea in the shady garden.

Delicious Lunches are served all day.

Relax over dinner outside on the verandah during the long summer evenings or inside in front of the fire in the cooler months.

“Lovely restaurant!”

Me and my friend had a lovely evening meal here, we both had a traditional African dish - Bobotie - which was delicious. Service was excellent we were greeted and served by a two lovely ladies, we were very well looked after. Would highly recommend!

Thank goodness we had booked a table, very very busy service and many people unable to get a reservation. Yes, it was worth it. Had a delicious Lamb Pie, my husband had the Chicken Pie and a delicious Malva Pudding for dessert. Great service by a young lady.

Ek wil vir jou die wind speel op ‘n rietfluit, sodat jy die lied van die waaigras in die vlei kan hoor. Eers dan sal jy weet wat die dag wil sê… as hy vir jou knipoog en kleurvol op jou skoot kom lê.

Ek sal vir jou ‘n roosblaar en ‘n duifveer bring, dalk hoor jy die rooivink in die rietbos sing… dalk ‘n olyftak en ‘n bossie roosmaryn of ‘n boeppens-maan wat helder skyn.

Ek sal vir jou vreugde in jou mandjie gooi, ‘n geelvink wat vrolik sing en swaeltjie wat somer bring… Jy kan kies wat maak jou bly, want blywees kan jy oral kry.

Mag daar ‘n windswael bo jou dak draai wat ‘n blywees boodskap bring. Mag hul nesmaak op jou stoep en ‘n wegwaai veertjie voor jou deur kom los. Mag jy die soetreuk van ‘n suikerbos kom kry in hierdie mooi dag wat grootoog vir jou wag.

Daar is ‘n wildsbok in ons voetval, ‘n lagduif in ons praat, net soms blom die klokkiesriet bietjie laat. Dalk blom die suikerbosse langs die voetpad, loop die klipbok naby verby… net dalk staan die aandster vannag hand om die lyf met die maan wat agter die kliprant wag.

Ek stuur vir jou ‘n boodskap met die grys duif op my dak met die oostewind wat roer in die olyfboom se tak. Dalk is dit woorde wat jy kry, dalk maak ‘n blommetjie jou bly, dalk… net dalk hoor jy vandag hoe vrolik die katjiepiering voor die deur kan lag.

Ek maak vir jou ‘n ruiker met vinkel en jasmyn, vrolike magrietjies en ‘n handvol roosmaryn. Ek gee vir jou die lente, die knipoog van die maan en vasdrukwoorde om saam met jou te gaan.
